#312 You Ask, We Answer - 55

Wednesday Jun 29, 2022

Wednesday Jun 29, 2022

Our monthly episode of You Ask, We Answer; where we take time to listen to our audience’s questions, select top trending picks, and answer them on the show. This month Michelle's co-host is an extra special, familiar voice, Christy Matthews! Question 1:My fiancé’s grandma used to yodel professionally. Yes - not singing, but yodeling. She’s in her 90s now and definitely misses her yodeling career. She yodels at every opportunity when she leaves the house. I am worried that she will try to steal the show at our wedding. There will be lots of new faces for her - a fresh audience.I know that it would mean a lot to my fiancé if we have her perform a song. And I think 1 song would be acceptable, but how do I draw (and enforce) the line? Question 2: Do you have any suggestions for something casual in terms of welcome drinks and also something casual to say goodbye at the end of the weekend? Question 3: I’m dealing with something very difficult for my January 14 wedding. My older sister who I always assumed would be one of my maid/matrons of honor told me 3 weeks ago that she didn't want to be in the wedding and she thought it should just be me and my friends. We have a hard relationship, 8 years apart, and this was sad and hurtful to me.... Then last week she called to tell us that she’s pregnant with her third baby! This is exciting... but her due date it January 13- the day before my wedding She lives in Texas and I’m in Florida so this means she wouldn’t be able to even attend, no flower girls, and I’m so happy for her but heartbroken at the same time because I can’t picture my wedding without her. I think most of it is out of my control at this point. Any thoughts?Question 4:I’m struggling with how to tell a girl who I’m not close with that she isn’t in the bridal party. She’s made so many assumptions that she is and references to bridesmaid dresses and it’s just incredibly uncomfortable. She got mad at me for not inviting her when I went dress shopping. I’m a people pleaser so I was tempted to just include her, but her personality is not one I want around me on my special day (she will still be a guest). Question 5:My fiance and his mother are not very close. His brother’s wedding anniversary is a week before our wedding. His mother wants us to dedicate a song to them. We will not be doing that. I want to reach out to her and let her know that we will not be dedicating our wedding to them. I know this may sound mean, but I know this woman and she will keep pushing unless I set boundaries. What do you think? Should I just ignore it? Or say something? Question 6:When is the bridal/wedding shower held? I've seen and heard everything from 2 months to 5 months before the wedding date. Does the timeframe matter?TheBig Wedding Planning Podcast is...Hosted and produced by Michelle Martinez.

How do you want to look on your wedding day? Are you thinking of changing your hair? Are you going to spray tan? Do you want to hire a hair and makeup artist? What about skin treatments? In this episode we cover all things beauty that you need to know in preparation of your wedding. Emily Edgar has been a professional makeup artist for over 10 years working all over the industry. Having been trained in Paris, France with the top European makeup academy and worked in the iconic New York City beauty scene – she has seen and done a lot! In addition to her on-set experience, she spent 3 years teaching the skills of makeup artistry to new artists and beauty enthusiasts alike at the Make Up For Ever Academy in NYC. Like the true professional she is, Emily provides endless tips, tricks and product recommendations, making her and the Bride's Guide to Beauty a valuable resource for individuals of any skill level. Big Takeaways
While there is truly zero requirement to do any of the beauty tips recommended in this episode, we wanted to give some hot tips from a professional make-up artist on how to look your most polished on your wedding day. It is important to remember that sometimes you can overdo it too, you want to feel like yourself in your pictures when you look back. Ultimately, you want to feel comfortable in your skin.
When you’re looking for your hair and make-up people, consider if you would feel good spending a lot of time with them. You absolutely want to be surrounded by people who support you and help you feel calm as you are preparing for the ceremony.
There is often no time to have a trial before booking a make-up artist, so when searching there are some things to look out for. Do a google search, find them on big wedding sites, see how they appear and what they share on multiple platforms. They should have a professional site. Think about how they are responding to your emails, are they respecting your time?
Remember that your vendor team and your planner are great resources!
Vet your practitioners! If they haven’t been practicing for a long time, it might not be the best option before your wedding. Someone with a great portfolio and recommendations goes a long way.
When deciding your wedding style, consider how you want to mesh the inspiration you find and the styles you love with your personal daily beauty/style. Think about what it is in the pictures you found that you really like. Is it their skin texture? The lip color? The hair? Consider the details.

My inspiration really comes from home interior, fashion magazines, and travel magazines, because I feel like that’s kinda where the trends start.” - Darryl Moore“And that’s all that matters to me, you know. #309 Are you a perfectionist?

Wednesday Jun 08, 2022

Wednesday Jun 08, 2022

We are all perfectionists in some way, shape or form. Planning a wedding can certainly heighten our perfectionist tendencies. And while we all know that wedding planning can be overwhelming, guess what? Overwhelm causes procrastination! Our guest on this episode is going to give some tips on how to avoid these tendencies and procrastination and set you on the right track. Our guest is Nicole Baker. Nicole is a Coach who helps perfectionists not only set goals, but actually follow through on them. Having grown up in a family immersed in the personal development world, she has been attending seminars and absorbing personal growth tools her whole life. She has since helped hundreds of perfectionists accomplish goals ranging from starting their own businesses, to starting and staying committed to a morning routine. She has been featured in Authority Magazine, Thrive Global, The Self Helpless Podcast and The Mighty plus is the CEO of Life Coach Baker LLC and the host of The Life Coach Baker Podcast.Nicole’s 3 types of perfectionists:
The Overachiever: Sees the very high peak goal and thinks they need to have reached it yesterday
The Procrastinator: Gets overwhelmed and then distracted. Puts things off until they are “motivated”.
The People Pleaser: Do not trust their own voice and put others on a pedestal
Nicole's tips for perfectionists:
Slow Down
Find a mantra you can come back to that helps calm you down and bring you back into yourself.
Trust your own voice.
Listen to a personal development podcast that helps center you.
Read a good personal development book.
Hire a therapist, coach, or mentor.
Start that inner work.
Start at step one, and move one step at a time.
Links We Referenced Nicole's PodcastTake the Quiz! What type of perfectionist are you?Nicole on Instagram: @lifecoachbakerPeerspaceQuotes:“Are you teaching people how to be perfect, Nicole?” - Michelle“I’m doing the opposite. I’m like let’s be messy, let’s release control, let’s take action and not feel like it has to be perfect.” - Nicole“Overachiever - hella motivated, very, very good at getting shit done. Procrastinator - they’re really good at dreaming. Procrastinators are phenomenal at saying, ‘I want this type of life.’ It’s just the follow through that they have issues with. And then people pleasers - they’re so empathetic. They love to care about other people’s feelings, which is definitely a trait to be admired. However, when it comes at the cost of your own voice, that’s when it’s the issue.” - Nicole“And the biggest thing about slowing down, it’s not like going and laying on your couch and watching Netflix, unless that’s your jam. It’s all about slowing down your mind and getting present, because if we’re not present for our life, why are we working so hard to build it?” - Nicole The Big Wedding Planning Podcast is...Hosted and produced by Michelle Martinez.

#306 You Ask, We Answer - 54

Wednesday May 25, 2022

Wednesday May 25, 2022

Our monthly episode of You Ask, We Answer; where we take time to listen to our audiences questions, select top trending picks, and answer them on the show. This month Michelle's co-host is Megan Gillikin. Megan is a wedding planner, podcast host and career coach (to planners).Questions In This Episode
My fiancé's brother got married last year (eloped with only us present). Last weekend, he asked my fiancé "Do you ever think you ended up with the wrong person?" Yikes! How often do you see family photos taken without the spouses of siblings?
I got engaged in October 2021 to my partner of 4 years. It was magical and amazing. I am part of a friend group consisting of 4 other girls and their partners. One girl who I’m not as close with, was waiting for her boyfriend to propose and was upset when I got engaged. She didn’t congratulate me, and we spent a girls trip we went on shortly thereafter consoling her while she cried. Can I not invite her to my wedding?
How to make the reception flow when there is no ceremony?
3 weeks from my wedding! What am I forgetting?
I am knee deep in designing my dream engagement ring, and my partner is excited for me and so supportive, so I should feel nothing but joy... but part of me still feels a tinge of sadness knowing that the ring itself, or when it's being shipped to us will not be a surprise like I had always hoped. How can we retain some element of magic and surprise around the proposal when I'm so intimately involved in the process already (and will always think every outing could be the big day)?
I’m trying to decide on a San Diego based wedding planner but for one’s price point for partial planning package ($4750) is more than others price point for full planning package ($4200). It seems like a no brainer since we like both planners but with the full we are getting more. Advice for comparing packages and prices?

The amount of things that went wrong for this couple while wedding planning is almost unbelievable! From being victims of a ponzi scheme, to COVID reschedules, to their wedding planner being banned from their 3rd venue (yes, you read it right, 3rd venue), to the Maid Of Honor quitting...and that's not even the half of it.Elliot Olson is a wife, dog mom, fitness and food enthusiast, and implementation consultant from the Kansas City area. She’s passionate about diversity and equality, vegan food, and her two adorable pups. In her free time, she loves to check out local coffee shops, go on walks around her neighborhood, watch chick flicks, and force Kenny to join her on all the above.Elliot and Kenny were legally wed on March 21, 2020, and they celebrated on March 19, 2022.
